1. Find a sugar substitute.
If you are a sugar lover, you need to find a great sugar substitute. I could never have succeeded on keto if I hadn’t discovered Swerve. It helped me survive those first weeks (or months) when the sugar cravings were intense. Instead of going cold turkey, I could whip me up a little dessert and satisfy that craving.
I had tried other sugar replacements before I found Swerve, and I didn’t like the taste. Swerve tastes more like sugar than any other I have tried.
2. Meal Plan
I hear every day how difficult keto is. The truth is, it is quite challenging to continuously eat healthy on any diet, but the ultimate secret to success is an effective meal planning system.
Meal planning is the MOST HELPFUL thing you can do to have success on a low carb diet. . If you have a plan for exactly what you are going to cook and eat, then you won’t cheat or eat junk when the time comes. Plan for all your meals, and even your outings and you’ll thrive on the keto diet.

3. Caffeine

For the first several days on keto, you will feel tired. Your body is adjusting to your new diet, and needs a little extra care. Make sure you have enough caffeine to keep you active for the first week.
Coffee with cream is my go-to. Thankfully, on keto, you are allowed cream in your coffee. ☕
4. Change your traditions.

It’s hardest to stick to your diet when the food is part of a tradition or a ritual. For example, one of the hardest things for me to pass up is movie popcorn. I don’t even really like popcorn. It’s just such a part of the tradition of watching movies and eating popcorn with my family.
I finally had to change the tradition. As I pop the popcorn for my family, I melt some cheese until it’s crunchy and snack on that while they eat their popcorn.
You don’t do without you just change the tradition.
Now, that being said, there are some traditions that are just too special to change. For example, I’m never going to change making Christmas cookies with my kids. I hope to do that every year, and, every year, I’ll eat at least one cookie. Keto or no Keto, Christmas cookies are staying at the Snider house.
You’ll have to gauge your traditions and decide which ones you can tweak, and which ones you’ll just have to cheat on. Just make sure that you don’t find yourself using tradition as an excuse to cheat everyday.
5. Workout before breakfast.

Working out before breakfast helps you get into ketosis and lose weight faster. The idea behind “fasted” cardio is that you are burning all body fat when you work out. You don’t have anything else in your system.
It helps you get into ketosis really fast, because you don’t have any other fuel, so your body must create ketones.
“Fasted” workouts before breakfast don’t need to be super intense workouts. A short jog or brisk walk before breakfast can be super helpful.
6. Worry about yourself.

Don’t compare yourself to other women on the same journey as you! Every body is different. Every weight loss journey is different. Other women might lose weight faster than you. Other women might be further along on the journey than you. Just worry about your own body, be proud of your accomplishments, and try not to get caught in the comparison trap.
7. Supplements
For the keto diet, I suggest two supplements: a multivitamin, and some electrolytes. Keto makes you shed a lot of electrolytes. So, it’s important to replace them or you’ll feel groggy and sluggish. These will help you to feel great on your keto journey, and maybe even stave off the dreaded keto flu.
Any multivitamin will do as long as it’s not a gummy, and I love the Beyond Raw Electrolytes. They taste awful, but add a little Mio in to make them bearable.
